International Solo-Dance-Theatre Festival Stuttgart – The Stuttgart-Evening as Festival Kick-off

Every year, the Stuttgart International Solo-Dance-Theatre Festival provides an overview of the latest international developments in the young solo dance theatre scene.

Choreographers and dancers from all over the world present a solo piece that offers a new, original, imaginative and unusual performance with its own style.

As a kick-off to the international festival, Stuttgart SOLO CHOREO will once again take place in 2025: On this evening, dancers and choreographers from Stuttgart and the region will exclusively show their work.

In the same format as the international competition, there will be an evening for the Stuttgart independent dance scene on Wednesday, 12th of March 2025.

On this evening, 6 artists from Stuttgart and the surrounding area (Stuttgart metropolitan region) can present their work on stage. The evening is not part of the competition and the pieces will not be awarded prizes. Applications for the Stuttgart evening as well as for the competition are possible with two different pieces. Multiple submissions for the evening are also possible.

General conditions

• Professional Stuttgart dancers / choreographers with a contemporary solo piece can apply.
• It does not have to be a premiere. Applications with excerpts from full-length pieces are possible.
• The duration of the performance must be between 9 and 12 minutes.
• The choreographies should be based on a contemporary and original movement language. The choice of topic and music is optional.
• Applications as a team (max. 2 persons) are possible.
• There is NO age limit.
• The choreographies or work samples to be presented must be submitted as an online link (YouTube or Vimeo) (NO WeTransfer link).

Selection

• The team will select the solos in consultation with the technical management and invite them before Christmas 2024.
• Participation must be confirmed by the beginning of January 2025.

Fee

• The solo and performance fee per artist is

590,- € (1x performance evening à 310,-€ + 2 rehearsal days à 140,- € according to the recommendations of the BFDK for KSK insured artists). The artist will issue a proper invoice after the performance.

Technical data (Robert-Bosch-Saal at TREFFPUNKT Rotebühlplatz of vhs stuttgart):

• Stage: 10 x 8.50 m
• Black dance floor
• Black backdrop with lanes
• Backdrop black or grey stone wall
• Standard light: surface, backlight warm and cold; lanes warm and cold;

1 dimming circuit for a special (for a single lamp)

• Sound carrier: CD or USB

Only easily transportable props are permitted for the stage set, whose assembly and dismantling does not delay the programme. They must also comply with fire protection class B1 (flame retardant). A final check is in the responsibility of the vhs stuttgart technical staff. Materials (sand, water, stones, flour, powder etc.) that soil the stage or cause excessive cleaning work after the performance are not permitted.

On the day of the performance, all artists will have a maximum of 75 minutes each to set up the stage, lighting and rehearsal. Further rehearsals cannot take place on site and must be organised independently.

Only complete applications submitted on time will be considered for selection.

The event will be broadcast live at www.treffpunkt-rotebuehlplatz.de and www.solo-tanz-theater.de.

Participants are required to be free on the day of the event, 12th March 2025, and to make themselves available free of charge for interviews, film and television recordings and photo shoots, etc.
