Overtones in Space

Obertongesang von Layers of Voice

  • Kirche St. Maria Stuttgart

From subtle overtones on the edge of the perceptual threshold to loud, powerfully radiant overtones with the technique of "polyphonic overtone singing", it is possible to create 8-part sounds with four singers. They sing improvised sequences and composed works in different positions in the church space, each producing a different sound result. In this way, the interaction between vocal sound and architecture can be experienced acoustically in a very impressive way.

Overtone singing/voice: Ines Abt, Timber A. Hemprich, Mechthild Hettich, Jens Ickert
