Nina Kurzeja

NINA KURZEJA received her classical training at the Ballet Academy of the Cologne Music School and at the Palucca School in Dresden.

Contemporary dance and forms of dance theatre only became part of her career in the early 1990s. She has been producing dance theatre pieces and performances as well as dance pieces for young audiences for over twenty years. She is co-founder and managing partner of ‘BLOMST! gUG’, which was founded in 2018 with the aim of creating and supporting cultural participation projects.

"My classical training is primarily geared towards bodies that don't seem suitable for this technique in the first place. I invite all dance-trained people to benefit from the clear structure of classical dance technique, in which each participant in my training gains confidence in their own physicality. The focus here is on contact with the floor and an energetically sensible shift in weight between the free leg and the supporting leg.

After extensive work on the pole, these are transferred to the centre with lively and expansive movement sequences. I generally avoid big jump combinations to protect the joints in the ankles, knees and hips."
