»One thing I know for sure: singing is like flying. I really am a bird, and it's not a dream.« Inspired by Alan Parker's 1984 anti-war film, we tell Birdie's story through dance. Traumatized by war, he lives in double isolation – locked in a psychiatric cell and shut away in his fantasy world as a »bird man«. It is his friend Al, who is also war-wounded, who frees him from this isolation by recounting their shared childhood experiences. Only then does Birdie truly fly. Only then do both of them escape their trauma. Into life through dance.
