Zina Vaessen and Selina Koch offer insights into their three-week research process, sharing their approaches and methods and inviting an open exchange about what they experienced and explored.
Starting from their interest in the ghostly within our existence — the absent yet nevertheless effective moment of being, as described by Jacques Derrida — they explore different forms of presence.
The research has resulted in site-specific scores that allow the body to become a resonant space for what already exists but cannot be immediately perceived. In doing so, they practice tuning into the atmospheres of a space, sensing what is already there, and exploring how these impressions inscribe themselves into the body and continue to resonate through it. Performance thus becomes a practice of activating memory, imagination, and those aftereffects that persist between past and present.
