The pull of our desires, with all its twists and turns, stirs up emotions within us—pleasure, happiness, sadness, despair, and anger. We refine how we present ourselves, strive to gain beauty and originality, and do things we never would have thought possible. How much desire—and what kind—is actually tolerated? Is our desire subject to a system of rules that we follow involuntarily?
The new production by JV & Team explores desire as an existential condition of being human. Inspired by Denis Diderot’s dialogic travel novel "Jacques the Fatalist and His Master", in which the servant binds his master to himself by recounting tales of romantic adventures, we examine how desire is handled today in a neoliberal, enlightened, and consumer-driven society.
