Based on family storytelling, Nadezhda deals with the loss of home. From the perspective of a granddaughter's generation, the performance reconstructs the blind spots of our grandmothers in fragmented flashbacks. Between abstract dance, figure and object play, and invented folk dance, we bring the spirits of our ancestors to life in our grandmothers' clothes. The focus is on the psychology of being a stranger, but also on the hope of arriving in a foreign land. Which heritage do we carry in our bodies? Nadezhda invites the audience on a poetic, surreal journey that encourages them to question their own roots—or lack thereof.
