A nod of the head. An arm, still held at a slightly awkward angle, extends toward you in greeting. Even before the first word is spoken, the dialogue and the social interaction have already begun. The gestural tools of their socialization are unpacked, polished, or bashfully concealed. Like your counterpart, you know that your appearance, posture, gestures, and facial expressions speak—in a language all their own—of experiences, states of mind, doubts, and preferences.

But what does our posture reveal? What do our gestures and facial expressions give away about us? The dance performance “Die Seherinnen” draws on research into individual body languages to develop a specific nonverbal dance vocabulary that grants us surprising and bizarre insights into the expressive worlds of the speaking body.
